Circassian Diaspora

The Circassian diaspora is a worldwide network of communities formed largely through nineteenth-century displacement from the Caucasus and sustained through families, associations, cultural institutions, and shared memory.

Where Circassian communities live

Large and historic Circassian communities exist in Türkiye, Jordan, Syria, Israel, Europe, and North America, alongside communities in the North Caucasus and smaller groups in other countries. Every community has developed within its own local history while maintaining connections to Circassian heritage.

Shared challenges

Diaspora communities work to maintain language transmission, cultural education, historical knowledge, youth participation, and meaningful relationships with other Circassian communities. Migration and generational change make international cooperation increasingly important.

Connecting the diaspora

ICCSA seeks to connect communities, specialists, volunteers, and partner organizations around practical assistance, documentation, education, and cultural preservation. The goal is to turn geographic distance into a network of mutual support.
